While working out the other day, it occurred to me that growing/developing your faith is like a muscle. As I lifted my weights, I thought about how you don’t automatically have a fully developed muscle after working out only a few times. It takes continual repetitions, a consistent devotion to your workout. This is how you develop your muscle. Over time (and it doesn’t take that long) you will visibly see the advancement of your commitment.
Faith is just like that. It takes dedication and steadfastness on a continual, daily basis. I hold these quotes in my heart because they speak the truth.
“I have learned that faith means trusting in advance what will only make sense in reverse.” Philip Yancey
“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen.”
“Faith is not belief without proof, but trust without reservation.” D. Elton Trueblood
Do you see the correlation here? It’s like putting one foot in front of the other. You will arrive at your desired destination as long as you keep moving forward. I’m almost into a full month of working out on a consistent basis and I am seeing my body changing and firming as I am getting stronger each day. And my muscles are taking shape once again as they develop. I am beginning to reap the benefit of my continual perseverance. It’s a great feeling!
So in developing your faith muscle, do something every day that will advance you in the growing of your faith. Knowing that with continual dedication, you will reap what you have sowed. You will develop your faith like that of a muscle. Your faith will be stronger and healthier as you have cultivated your faith on a new deeper seated level. This is the best feeling!
With much love,
Alice
