In the honour of World Book Day, I thought I would share a post inspired by one of my favourite books.

A while ago I watched some You Tube clips of Will Smith, one of my idols, and in one interview with Travis Smiley, Will mentioned the book called The Alchemist written by Paulo Coelho and how it changed his life. If a book has such a profound affect on a great thinker and inspirational guy like Will then I thought it was worth giving it a go.

I bought it and read the full thing in less than a week and wasn’t disappointed. Don’t get me wrong it’s not a long book and is so intriguing that you’ll rattle through the 197 pages in no time. What was refreshing and inspiring was that I got the story, I recognised the hidden meanings and what…

The Alchemist

I just completed this book, The Alchemist written by Paulo Coelho. The book takes you on a spiritual quest of finding your purpose in life, or as he describes it, your legend.

I wanted to share this book with you because I truly enjoyed it and found it to be very enlightening. I love learning and growing on my spiritual journey through life, so this book was a great read.

In the section, “About the Author,” Paulo Coelho once said that, “Following your dream is like learning a foreign language; you will make mistakes but you will get there in the end.” I could really relate to that statement since I’ve now been living in France for 10 months and I have not yet learned the language as quickly as I thought I would. However, I will never give up and I will continue learning and one day, I will speak French.

Learning anything new takes time. It takes time to implement into your daily life, it must be repeated over and over before it becomes a part of you. At that point, each day, you make a choice to live your life in this manner. We continually evolve and the goal is to develop everyday by the choices we make.

I wish you a day filled with lots of love, laughter and joy as you move forward on your quest in finding and living your legend.

The “Issue”

A few years ago I heard an excellent breakdown of the word- ISSUE, and I would like to share it with you today. OK, are you ready? Say it slowly… I-S-S-U-E…; “Is YOU.”

When I heard this, I began to laugh as I thought it was cute. Then I took time to think about what I had heard and thought how very true this statement was.

It’s my belief that we are a mirror reflection of one another and if you have an “issue” with another person, if you are honest with yourself, the “issue” is really not with them, but within you.

There’s a Rumi quote that explains this thought: “People of the world don’t look at themselves, and so they blame one another.”

I will tell you this was true of me for a very long time. I was not aware of it for many years, but once I became cognizant of this truth, I placed my attention on looking within myself to see what changes I needed to address. It was a good experience because I found that I was cultivating the development of living authentically, while releasing beliefs I had about myself that were either no longer true or had never been true.

I believe this process is ongoing as we evolve in life, and once you are conscious of this, it’s easier to confront it and move forward on your spiritual path.

Wayne Dyer said: “Begin to see yourself as a soul with a body rather than a body with a soul.” Once we see one another in this way, criticism and judgment of others as well as judging ourselves will dissipate because we will see one another from the soul, which is pure love. That’s when we cease having the “issue.”

Breaking the Habit

“Talking about our problems is our greatest addiction. Break the habit. Talk about your joys.” By Rita Schiano

I really like this quote as it reminds us that we ought to talk about the joys, the blessings, in our life. This is what you and I desire to attract more of. You are aware of the importance of your words and your thoughts as they are the positive or the negative energy that you are sending out into the universe.

In my quiet time, I meditate on this very subject of not speaking negatively or allowing any negative thought to linger in my mind. This process, which has become a habit, has taken some time to develop, but honestly I am more at peace living this way than ever before!

I’ve adopted the T-H-I-N-K principle and before speaking I ask myself these questions:

T- Is it TRUE?

H- Is it HELPFUL?

I- Is it INSPIRING?

N- Is it NECESSARY?

K- Is it KIND?

It’s a very effective tool to include in your “tool box.”

I would like to encourage you, if you haven’t already done so, to use this principle in your daily life. It definitely has transformed me to a place where I choose to not talk about my problems, only my joys. It’s very cool because when you do this, you see the “problem” as an opportunity for growth and that too brings joy.
